Vehicle tracking systems come in many shapes and sizes and serve a variety of purposes. When most people think about GPS, they are thinking in terms of assistance with personal navigation. Companies such as Garmin, Magellan and Tom Tom all produce excellent GPS navigation devices. However, GPS also serves a different purpose - covert vehicle tracking.
Over the last several years, GPS systems have taken on a new function, primarily for monitoring drivers - "spying", if you will. For example, a plumbing company has a fleet that consists of 20 service trucks and vans. In the past, it was difficult to effectively monitor the location of each of these drivers. In many cases, a driver might be doing jobs on the side or taking three hour lunch breaks. Other drivers might be using the company vehicles for personal use. And of course, many drivers would be driving recklessly and in excess of the speed limit.
When live, real-time vehicle tracking systems were introduced to the market, many of these employee issues resolved themselves automatically. The SleuthGear live GPS real-time device allows a manager or supervisor to see where their service vehicles are at all times. From the computer at company headquarters, or from any computer in the world for that matter, the boss can log on and see where each driver is located, in real time.
Another use for covert GPS vehicle tracking devices is to help parents monitor the activities of their teenage driver. Since 2001, parents have been using two different types of tracking systems to keep any eye on their teens - live (or "real-time") and passive (or "data-loggers"). A live vehicle tracking device allows a parent to monitor their teenage driver in real-time over the internet. If a teen driver is speeding or is "out of bounds", the parent knows immediately. Two good examples of live real-time GPS vehicle tracking systems are our ProTrak Ranger and SleuthGear Live Tracking Device model made by US Fleet Tracking.
A passive covert GPS tracking device is essentially a data logger. In other words, the device is magnetically attached under the car and save the travel data and history. When the vehicle returns, the owner can remove the vehicle tracking device, plug it into the computer and download a full report showing the travel history, including start and stop times and speeds traveled. These covert GPS vehicle tracking units also show you on a Google map the exact address where the vehicle stopped and how long it was there. Spy Gear Pros sells two different passive covert GPS vehicle tracking data loggers; the Super Trackstick , and the Sleuthgear iTrail .
The third most common application for covert GPS vehicle tracking devices is to catch a cheating spouse. This can be done by either a private investigator or by the spouses themselves. Since this new GPS technology has become available, we have seen husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends inquire with us as to how to effectively catch their significant other in the act of cheating. When a husband or wife is acting suspicious and there is a sense that something is not quite right, tens of thousands of spouses have taken matters into their own hands to confirm their suspicions of infidelity. When they decide that they want to pinpoint their specific whereabouts when the other is out of the house, countless suspicious spouses have purchased one of our covert GPS vehicle tracking units, attached it to the car and let the tracker do the rest.
